The Importance of Having all of Your Usernames and Passwords

Even if another 3rd party company runs and manages your web content for you, be it social media, domain hosting, website login, or any other business account it is vital that the accounts be set up in your name and your companies name and that you have at all times an updated list of all sites, user names, and passwords so that you retain full access to your business.

While we are at it it is also a very good idea when a designer creates a logo for you that when it’s completed you make sure to ask for the layered creation file (.PSD) as well as the finished product (.jpg, .png, or .tiff). Reason being that in the course of business, over the years almost no one works exclusively with just one designer. It is incredibly helpful for the next person (and less expensive for you) to be able to use the original file to see what font(s) are being used as well as not have to recreate it if say you need it on a transparent background or have other requests.

Back to the issue of access and passwords. Being in control of your own online accounts is important. While you may have someone like Damonaz Design who is completely trustworthy, professional, and organized, you just never know when something could happen.

We have very unfortunately worked with clients who’s admins passed away unexpectedly. It turned out many of their accounts had been created in his name. With his email and phone number which now, of course, no one has access too. This creates a jumbled mess for the business owner and new team to try and untangle.

While some companies will allow the owner to simply prove through a phone call to the number listed on the site along with a state ID that they are indeed the real site owner, others have asked for government-issued articles of incorporation which can take up to 3 weeks to send via mail. That is a long time for a site to be down and inaccessible.
