There seems to be a general confusion over what SEO is and what SEO can and cant do for your web traffic and business.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Optimizing your website for major search engines such a Google, Bing and Yahoo to be able to find and crawl (read) your site is vital in order to be listed and ranked. This is how people find you online. When they type a search term into a browser, in order for your site to come up as a valid listing, the keywords they are typing in must be found on your site and on the specific page.
SEO takes time and consistency. Results are not instant. You must do on-page SEO for every page and pictures contained on your site as well as keyboarding blogs and posts on a regular basis.
Remember – You are not the only one trying for that first page ranking on Google in any search term you decide. There is always competition. Many factors come in to play including the age of the domain name, the age of the site, links you have back to your site from other credible websites, and much more. Its a game of numbers only won over time. Don’t give up if you don’t hit page one in the first couple of months.
Seeing an increase in metrics is a success. Though many equate only ROI (Return On Income) as the only true success marker, with SEO that simply isn’t the full picture. Yes, you want more clients to find you and spend money. That is the ultimate goal, but the world wide web is just that – worldwide. There are billions of websites on the internet. Getting your site found is tricky. Choosing the right search terms is key and though new terms can be focused on and added in at any point along your SEO journey, you won’t automatically rank on new terms right away.
The Goal Of SEO is Visibility
That is the #1 reason SEO exists at all. In order for your site to be made visible to as many potential clients as possible. If your overall metrics are showing a positive increase, that means that your SEO efforts are paying off.
What SEO Can’t-Do
SEO Cant rocket you to #1 on Google or Yahoo right away. Anyone who promises you that you would do well to steer clear of.
SEO Cant guarantee a jump in business – SEO’s one and only job is to get your site in front of a large number of people, targeting potential clients as directly as possible. If you have the SEO numbers but not an increase in business, a further study of the site itself may be needed and adjustments made.
